Topology of real algebraic varieties and equivariant homology.
Friday 13th October, 12-1pm, Carslaw 275.
An algebraic variety over the real numbers can be considered
as a complex algebraic variety with an involution given by
complex conjugation. The set of fixed points of this involution
is the set of real points. In this talk I will illustrate
the usefulness of this equivariant point of view, mainly
concentrating on applications of equivariant homology.
