General Information

The Summer School

In early 2007, The University of Sydney will host the fifth annual ICE-EM/AMSI Summer School. The Summer School is designed for honours and postgraduate students in the mathematical and statistical sciences. The program will consist of courses in both pure and applied mathematics and in statistics. The Summer School runs over four weeks from 15 January to 9 February 2007 and is organised by the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

At the discretion of their home institution, honours students may be able to take courses for credit towards their degree. Contact your Head of Department or Honours Coordinator for guidance on this matter.

The Summer School 2008 will be held at Monash University in Melbourne from 4 January – 8 February 2008.

Background

The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) is a national consortium established through a grant from the Victorian Government and funds from nearly thirty AMSI member institutions. The International Centre of Excellence for Education in Mathematics (ICE-EM) was established by AMSI to strengthen education in mathematics and its contemporary applications.

In 2002 the Federal Government announced funding which enabled AMSI to run a program of summer courses for honours and postgraduate students in the mathematical sciences. Previous summer schools have been held in 2003 at the University of Melbourne, 2004 at the University of New South Wales, 2005 at the Australian National University and 2006 at the RMIT University, Melbourne.

ICE-EM is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Science and Training.
