Points of interest relating to last year's exam:
-
Owing to a minor arithmetical error, the marks actually total 96
instead of 100.
-
Of the 96 marks, 29 were awarded for knowing definitions.
- Question 4 was an assignment question last year.
- Question 6(ii) was a tutorial question.
- The proof asked for in Question 8 was given in detail in
lectures; so this was "book work". While I admit that this was
a hard question, proofs from lectures are fair game as exam
questions, provided they are not too long. (This one is probably
as hard as I would ever ask.)
- Question 7 was an unseen problem, meant to sort out the
top students.
Last year's exam may or may not be a good guide to this year's.
At least I can say that its style is fairly typical of exams
that I have set in the past and will set in the future.
