Tournament of the Towns

The Tournament of the Towns is an international competition with more than a hundred participating cities around the world. It is conducted each year in two stages - Autumn and Spring. Each stage has two papers: O (ordinary) and A (advanced). There are also two streams: Junior (for students in Years 8 - 10) and Senior (Years 11, 12).

The tournament was held in Sydney at the University of Sydney in 2018 - 2021. By the reasons beyond our control, we are no longer organising this event. On this page, you can find the problems from the past tournaments.

Problems

Here are the problems from the Autumn Round, 2021 (Northern hemisphere):

• O-level Junior;

The problems are very difficult. Even solving one problem in a tournament is a big achievement.

The level of difficulty of A-level paper is comparable with that of AMO. O-level paper is slightly easier.

About the tournament

The Tournament of the Towns is an international mathematical competition. It started in the former USSR as Olympiad of Three Towns (Moscow, Leningrad and Riga). Its purpose was to provide an alternative to the International Olympiad for many talented students who did not have the opportunity to participate in the international competitions.

Since then the number of participating towns grew to more than one hundred in about 25 countries of Europe, Asia, South and North America, Australia and New Zealand.
