Abstract: This is not a research seminar, I’m sorry to say. Too many students of mathematics really know nothing about its genesis, its history, its vitality. They think it’s dead. Too much mathematics for them runs on Definition, Lemma, Theorem, Proof lines. I have learned that good students can be enthused by hearing stories about mathematicians and mathematics. I say that these stories are ‘almost true’ and they are! I hope each person who attends learns something new from me. That’s my goal.
