Dear Alll, It is just to let you know that Prof Lars Grune from the University of Bayreuth (see http://num.math.uni-bayreuth.de/en/team/Gruene_Lars/ ) will give a colloquium seminar at 1pm on Sept 3 in C5C T1 Theatre at Macquarie University. The title and an abstract of the seminar are as follows Model predictive control as a device to approximate infinite horizon by finite horizon optimal control problems In this talk, we present recent results on the performance of model predictive control (MPC) schemes in the context of infinite horizon optimal control. We will be able to prove approximate optimality of the resulting trajectories both in an infinite horizon averaged and in a "transient" sense (the meaning of the latter will be defined in the talk). A particular emphasis will be put on the explanation of the underlying structural assumptions on the optimal control problems to be solved. The talk will also present open questions which arise from an application of MPC to smart grids as well as for discounted optimal control problems. Please come along if you are interested. With best regards, Vlad
