Geometry & Topology Seminar
Mean curvature flow encoding mass and center of mass in asymptotically flat 3-manifolds
Gerhard Huisken (Tubingen/Oberwolfach)
Monday 19 December 11:00–12:00 in Carslaw 830.
Please join us for lunch after the talk!
Abstract: The lecture explains how an end of an asymptotically flat 3-manifold modelling a time slice of an isolated gravitating system in General Relativity can be swept out by radial foliations of 2-spheres solving mean curvature flow. It will be explained how these foliations encode information on the mass and center of mass of the isolated gravitating system.
