I recently looked at Nekrashevych's 2009 paper in Crelle on C*-algebras and self-similar groups with some colleagues who would describe themselves as analysts rather than geometers. This led to some very interesting discussions and insights which I will share. This talk will be largely expository, beginning with an introduction to self-similar groups.
