In this talk we give an overview of some aspects of the representation theory of affine Hecke algebras. It is planned to be accessible. In particular we hope to discuss the definitions, basic combinatorics, basic representation theory, the associated C*-algebra, representations of this C*-algebra, and approaches to the Plancherel Theorem.
My personal interest in studying this beautiful theory has been driven by probabilistic questions on affine buildings and p-adic Lie groups.
