Abstract: In the last few decades the study of three dimensional hyperbolic link complements has played a prominent role in our understanding of the topology of 3-manifolds. However not much is known about hyperbolic link complements in dimension four. In this talk I will go through some basic constructions which lead to examples of hyperbolic link complements in certain closed simply connected 4-manifolds. I will then show how the ability to admit a complement that is hyperbolic places restrictions on the topology of a 4-manifold.
